Happy Birthday Bombshell

May your day be filled with joy and happiness. Happy 29th, daughter.

Blog Prompt: Accomplishments & Consequences

What is the most important thing you have to accomplish today? What would be the consequence if it did not get done?

Remember to make my hair appointment. My hair grows so fast and missing an appointment adds an additional half inch to my mop. It has already grown enough to be interferring. It is hard to remember that a year and half ago it was past my waist and I have managed to keep it at shoulder length since. But the consequences of letting it get long include headaches and I don't really want to have to go through those again.

It might be a good idea for me to remember that it is the Bomb’s 29th birthday too. Forgetting that may make things just a tad stickier than they already are, LOL.

Blog Prompt: Anger Management

“Anger Management involves a system of psychological therapeutic techniques and exercises by which one with excessive anger can reduce the triggers, degrees, and effects of an angered emotional state.” ~Self Improvement Complete Dictionary. What form does your anger management take?

For years I could not control my anger. And believe me it was rugged, especially for the recipient of that anger. Since having children, I have learned to take a step back, take a deep breath, and then start screaming. Most times though, I go into another room and start throwing things. Hoping all the while that the only things I am throwing are unbreakable. So far I have been lucky. But I really do try to get away from the source of my anger.

Blog Prompt: What does it mean to be you?

"To be nobody but myself -- in a world which is doing its best, night and day, to make you everybody else -- means to fight the hardest battle which any human being can fight, and never stop fighting." ~ E. E. Cummings ~

I am a complex person. Compassionate and caring on one side, but flip that coin and you could get a raging bull. Most would describe me as being too kind. I guess I am. I don’t like to see anyone hurt or hurting. But on occasions, I have been the one to cause that hurt. I have had to learn to temper that rage through the years. And now that I have reached and barely surpassed middle age, I think I have come close. But still it simmers below the surface for that one time, that one occasion when being kind or compassionate has caused me pain.

Birthing Pains

WARNING: There will be a brief mention of certain female reproductive parts and another word for rear ends. If this will in any way embarrass or offend you, please do not read further.

Sometimes it is better to wait before scrapping a page, such as the birth of a child.

I had only gotten around to doing one of Indy's pages but the wait was worth it.
The other night as he was suppose to be going to sleep and I was working on my computer, he wanted to see pictures of himself as a baby. I showed him these, taken in the hospital, the day he was born.

After staring at them for a few minutes, he very seriously turned to Pan & myself and asked if this was the day his mommy pooped him out of her butt. Trying not to laugh, I explained that he had been in her uterus and came through the vagina.

After another few moments of silence he turned once more with another question.

"I came from China?" he said excitedly. "Can I speak Chinese?" We lost it.

(and yes, mother, I know it should say 'asked excitedly' but that's how I put it on the page and I'm not redoing it, LOL)

T the Terrorizing Lovebird

T was a lovebird. Ex brought him home as a “gift.” It was bad enough that he had already brought home a dog and a cat. On top of which, this bird did not have a mate and was MEAN. Mean to everyone except Scamp that is. Those two loved one another. And whatever Scamp was doing, T had to be right in the middle of it. Scamp had one of those riding push toys shaped like a crayon and while he would race around the house 90 to nothing, T would be perched on the steering wheel, wings just afluttering to keep his balance.

One of his favorite places to perch was on top of the fridge. He would sit there patiently waiting for the cat to come in for a drink and down he would come. Peck, peck, peck. The poor cat was terrified of him. Off she would slink as he sat on the edge of her bowl drinking. Then if you looked carefully the cat would be stalking him. Quiet as a mouse she slithered across the floor and just as she got up to the bowl, he would turn around and peck her on the nose.

The thing is we couldn’t keep T in his cage. We must have spent a small fortune on cages for the bird but he was the Houdini of birds. Finally we just gave up. T was finally lost to us when Ex left the door open and he flew off. Later we heard he was living in some trees a few blocks from us. He apparently started a new life terrorizing the local feathered friends.

Blog Prompt: Get in Touch with Your Senses

Touch something close to you. Write about it, the texture, color, shape, etc.

There you sit right before my eyes. The closer I get the more I can see the tiny spikes of a once living organism. The holes from which the tentacles protruded to grab the tiny particles that floated around it in the salty sea. Now yellowed with age and being dried out, once you could have been a multitude of colors, hiding tiny fish from the predators of the deep. And as I glance even deeper into your pores, I can see where dust mites and lint have taken hold.

Blog Prompt: Would you?

Take a book or dictionary, hold it closed with the spine in your lap. Now remove your hands and let it fall open. Close your eyes and place a finger on the page. What is the closest word to your finger? Write a paragraph around that word.

My word happens to be “would”. Since the book I chose was “Dune” by Frank Herbert, the one I am currently reading, one would think that I would get something a little more interesting. More along a science fiction line, but that would have been asking too much, I think. I must also admit I have never stopped to think how I would use “would” in a paragraph as the main word. The one I would wrap the paragraph around. What really is interesting is that the multiple use of the word “would” has not yet set off the grammar check. Though I would not know what I would do if it did start pinging all the woulds. It doesn’t like the ‘s’ on the end, as I would imagine that really would not be a word.

Blog Prompt: Achievements

Achievement connotes accomplishment of something noteworthy, after much effort and often in spite of obstacles and discouragements. What do you feel is your greatest achievement?

Of course, the first thing that comes to mind is giving birth and raising three beautiful children. And that, my friend, is the greatest achievement I could ever conceive of.

There have been others though. Three years with the rape crisis council. Working with elementary and middle schools on giving children information on the harm of smoking. Teaching Sunday school. Babysitting.

Babysitting, you say? I use to watch a young lad and girl of 10 and 6 when we lived on Guam. They were the most precious children I have ever had the privilege to spend time with. The little girl was mentally deficient and had to be cared for as if she was only 6 or 7 months old. The boy, though, was a true genius. There was no middle ground for these kids. So, yes, babysitting falls into the category of achievements.

Blog Prompt: Open Minded?

An open mind is a good place to start. Stay open to everything. The more that you see, hear, and experience, the more connections you’ll make. ~Jim Henson. What is your mind open to?

I like to think that my mind is open to all sorts of possibilities. To life on other planets, to new discoveries beneath our seas. I also like to think that I am open to different lifestyles, different religions; or at least tolerant. And I am.. to a point. When it comes to my family, I am not sure I would be so tolerant those different lifestyles, etc. But who knows, maybe I would be if I was actually faced with it.

Coffee Filters

Who knew! and you can get 1,000 for almost nothing.

1. Cover bowls or dishes when cooking in the microwave. Coffee filters make excellent covers.

2. Clean windows and mirrors. Coffee filters are lint-free so they'll leave windows sparkling.

3. Protect china. Separate your good dishes by putting a coffee filter between each dish.

4. Filter broken cork from wine. If you break the cork when opening a wine bottle, filter the wine through a coffee filter.

5. Protect a cast-iron skillet. Place a coffee filter in the skillet to absorb moisture and prevent rust.

6. Apply shoe polish. Ball up a lint-free coffee filter.

7. Recycle frying oil. After frying, strain oil through a sieve lined with a coffee filter.

8. Weigh chopped foods. Place chopped ingredients in a coffee filter on a kitchen scale.

9. Hold tacos. Coffee filters make convenient wrappers for messy foods.

10. Stop the soil from leaking out of a plant pot. Line a plant pot with a coffee filter to prevent the soil from going through the drainage holes.

11. Prevent a Popsicle from dripping. Poke one or two holes as needed in a coffee filter.

12. Put a few in a plate and put your fried bacon, French fries, chicken fingers, etc on them. Soaks out all the grease.

13. Keep in the bathroom. They make great "razor nick fixers.."

Oh, They're also great to use in your coffee makers

Blog Prompt: To Question a Story

“The questions you ask shape the story you live. What story do you want to live?” ~The Life Organizer by Jennifer Louden

The questions I need to ask to shape my story would be:

Am I willing to run through the water in all my clothes? Can I still stare at how the bugs live? And would I try to catch snowflakes as they tumble down?

And the answer to each is yes, most definitely yes. To think like a child. To share the wonder and fascination they have with each and every day.

I hope I never lose that wonder and fascination. And that I can find something in each and every day worth learning.

Blog Prompt: Face to Face

When you come face to face with a difficulty what is your first impulse?

Face to Face with difficulties have me wishing I could turn tail and run to the nearest ostrich hole and bury my head next to the world's largest chicken.

But we all know that really does not solve anything, so I buck it up, stick my chin out and hope that I can bear it.

I would like to say that I always succeed, but I don't. Not even half the time. Most times I feel like the world's largest coward. I don't like confrontations and just about do anything to avoid them. Compromise, agreement, just backing down totally. All so I don't have to come Face to Face with my difficulties.

But then there are those things which I have to face. As when Scamp was in Iraq and Afghanistan. Or Nuke was on the sub. I worried, but still had to maintain a life here at home. It's a wonder I don't have ulcers.

Blog Prompt: Quote of the Day

What is your favorite quote and how does it apply to you?

"God gives ever bird its food but He does not throw into its nest." ~J.G. Holland
I think this quote encompasses my core belief in that you are responsible for your actions. I remember Nuke, jokingly, telling me that I shouldn't have such high standards, then I wouldn't have passed them on to him.

These words mean more than ever today when we are faced with the onslaught of the "gimme's." So many believe that they are owed because of some slight they perceive. Or slights/wrongs perpetrated upon their families in the past.

The selfishness is so depressing, and made even more so for me, since I have discovered someone close to me, is now one of those people. Maybe one day they will see this quote and realize the strength behind it. I hope so.

Blog prompt: Daily Traditions

Almost all of us have some kind of annual tradition; but what about daily traditions? Do you all sit down together at dinner? Have special times and places for homework? Bedtime routines that almost never waver? Let's hear them all

We really don't stick to a routine of any kind around. We just don't know when everyone is going to be available. Unlike my sister, by whom you could set a clock. That I am not kidding about. She has set times for everything.

About the only thing that comes close to a daily tradition would be doing homework with the Princess. Every day she comes in, unloads her backpack and says "Tink, I need your help." So we sit down and go over what she is suppose to be doing. I think she gets a thrill out of seeing me waver between having no idea what her homework is about or getting frustrated because I can't make her understand what I'm explaining without just giving her the answer. Still it is loads of fun to work with her and have our time together.

Blog Prompt: Motherhood

Let's start out the month by writing about what being a mother means. Now if you are not a mother, you have several options. You can write about what you think it means, or you can write about being a sister, a daughter, an aunt... You get the picture

What does it mean to be a mother? You would think with 3 generations to ask, that a decent answer could be given. But not so, as every woman, man and child has a different idea of what a mother should be.

I am blessed with a mother that I can also, now, consider a friend as well as confidant. She has been a sounding board for all my woes and tribulations trying to make my own way through motherhood. I hope that I can be that to my own daughter.

Motherhood is an experience that literally is without end. For once you begin this journey it will be with you the rest of your life. All the good times, all the bad; the tragedies and joys. It's definitely a one-of-a-kind experience.

I need a racquet ball court

Last Sunday, Indy woke up in pain and with a lymph node the size of a small egg. I thought it probably had to do with his ears, Bomb thought it might be a tooth. Either way, I advised her if it was not gone by the following morning she would probably need to take him to the doctor.

After she left for work, he finally agreed to some Tylenol and was feeling better in no time at all. Bomb called that afternoon to say that she was leaving work and was going to take him to Sacred Heart emergency room for a look see. And it was a good thing she did.

According to the doctor he had a rare (but not unheard of nor untreatable) bacterial infection of the mastoid sinus and lymph nodes. They started with an aggressive regiment of antibiotics and predisone. He has to take the Septra twice a day for 10 days, the predisone twice a day for 5 and had to have daily injections of rocephin.

Between the injections and the predisone, he has been bouncing off the walls, literally. A non-stop whirlwind of trouble. At 4 years old and just a few inches shy of 4 foot (I just measured him and he is 3'10"), it is difficult, to say the least, to control him when he gets his gander up.

There have been many late nights for both Bomb and myself this week and early mornings. It has even taken a toll on me and I am use to late nights and early mornings.

The upside is he is feeling much, much better and the swelling is gone. Crossing our fingers that next week will settle down as he will be off the predisone and rocephin.

Blog Prompt - What needs cleaning

in your house?

You mean besides the entire house? My bedroom could probably use a really good cleaning. The living room needs to have the tools put up and the dust vacuumed from when Pan redid the wiring; as well as the mantle needing to be painted. And he needs to go ahead and build the dvd/bookcase for me and paint it. The Princess will unload the dishwasher when she gets home from school and then I will reload it, but the kitchen floor should be scrubbed sometime soon. At least there are no toys scattered over the living room again. Apparently Indy and The Princess now believe I am serious when I tell them to pick up.

Blog Prompt - How important

is rest and relaxation to you?

Very important, but I don't seem to get enough of it lately, LOL. Don't know if it is old age creeping up or that my internal body clock has gotten messed up. It has gotten more and more difficult to get to sleep before 1 or 2 in the morning. Then, most mornings, I have to be up, or am woken up, before 7 a.m.

I keep telling myself I will catch up on Wednesdays, Fridays or Sundays, but it just never seems to happen. I'm going to do it this weekend though, right? Right? :)

of time online because...

I don't spend that much time online anymore. I write on my blog, upload layouts to my galleries, read my favorite blogs and once a week I try to check for new templates and sketches. Other than templates, I don't download as many freebies as I once did. In fact, I'm culling through them now and trying to organize the ones I want to keep. Arrrgghhh... :)

NOTE to Linda: The blog prompts are for anyone who is interested and wants to participate. You are more than welcome to answer it in the comments or even make a post of it on your blog.

For those who are interested, the photos in the layout below are taken using my "studio light" (the $18 dollar halogen work light). Not professional but good enough for me.

What is a grandparent?

(Taken from papers written by a class of 8-year-olds)

Grandparents are a lady and a man who have no little children of their own. They like other people's.

A grandfather is a man, & a grandmother is a lady!

Grandparents don't have to do anything except be there when we come to see them. They are so old they shouldn't play hard or run. It is good if they drive us to the shops and give us money.

When they take us for walks, they slow down past things like pretty leaves and caterpillars.

They show us and talk to us about the colors of the flowers and also why we shouldn't step on 'cracks.'

They don't say, 'Hurry up.'

Usually grandmothers are fat but not too fat to tie your shoes.

They wear glasses and funny underwear.

They can take their teeth and gums out.

Grandparents don't have to be smart.

They have to answer questions like 'Why isn't God married?' and 'How come dogs chase cats?'

When they read to us, they don't skip. They don't mind if we ask for the same story over again.

Everybody should try to have a grandmother, especially if you don't have television because they are the only grownups who like to spend time with us.

They know we should have snack time before bed time, and they say prayers with us and kiss us even when we've acted bad.

A 6-year old was asked where his grandma lived. "Oh," he said, "she lives at the airport, and when we want her, we just go get her. Then when we're done having her visit, we take her back to the airport."

Grandpa is the smartest man on earth! He teaches me good things, but I don't get to see him enough to get as smart as him!

It's funny when they bend over; you hear gas leaks, and they blame their dog.

Sorry Mother

For a change my layout below and my story seem to coincide. Poor Indy (poor me) had a rough haul last weekend.

It has been years since I really blew my stack and last Saturday I did. I had asked and asked for the kids to pick their toys up in the living room. We had planned on a movie night with pizza picnic on the living room floor. But after I ordered the pizza I walked out to see them both laying on the floor... doing nothing. Their excuse was they were too tired.

While I blew worse than Mount St. Helen. I sent them to bed. But then I thought about it more and made them come back out and sit at the end of the hall where they could watch me putting all their toys into garbage bags. The Princess did not say a word but the tears just kept rolling down her checks. Indy cried and howled about his toys and how he wanted them, but wasn't willing to stop crying to put them up.

After getting everything picked up and the living room vacuumed, I gave them another opportunity to put their toys up. The Princess quickly jumped on the chance (she was told that she could only put away her toys from the garbage bag) and within minutes everything was put away and she was cleaning up their bedroom to boot. She got kudos and to pick out the movie for movie night.

Indy was still in bed when the pizza arrived and I called him out to eat his while Pan and Zoe were trying to figure out if the black spot was from the movie or on the projector. He refused so in bed he got to stay. Fixing the Princess', Pan's and my plates, we started the movie and eating. From the bedroom, we could hear "help me," "help me". I went back to see what the problem was. He wanted to come out. "Not until you put up your toys." Back to crying. Back to the movie. Soon... "help me," "help me."

"What is the matter now?"

"I want you to sleep wit me."

"No way Hosea."

Leave room AND close the door.

At this point this has been going on for more than an hour. Constant crying, no stopping...

"Help me," "help me."

Back to the bedroom... "Come on out."

"Please hold me?"

Cradling him, I carried him back to the living room, sat him down and went to fix his dinner.

The next day when I told them to pick up, they were at it pronto. Indy singing "Clean, clean, clean, clean." Guess something got through.

But Sunday night proved to be as much a challenge for Indy as Saturday had been. His mommy got home early from work and had the evening to spend with him. They were playing on her computer when he started to jump up and down on the bed, breaking the prong to the power strip off in the wall.

I was getting up to get something to drink when I saw him in the kitchen repeating over and over again "Sorry Mother." Yep it sounded like he was capitalizing both words. Now at the time I did not know about the power strip. All I could see was him taking a pitcher of Koolaid out of the fridge that was nearly as big as he was. Rushing to help, he dropped it just as I got there. Koolaid all over the floor and in the fridge. Out comes mommy, chewing him out all over again. And the mantra starts again "Sorry Mother."

While she is cleaning up the pitcher (plastic, thank goodness), I'm cleaning up the floor and refrigerator. When I look up, Indy is trying to pass me when he slips on the mess. Legs fly in the air and he lands on his arm. His mother turns around and all she sees is him lying on the floor and starts in again. He gets up, runs to the back with me in pursuit asking to see his arm. My daughter is right behind me asking what had happened. When I told her that he had slipped and wasn't playing around this time, she scooped him up in her arms and forgave him all his transgressions that night.

And while the actual details of the night may one day dim in my memory, hearing him say "Sorry Mother, Sorry Mother," over and over again never will.

Blog Prompt - Describe a special project

you may be working on right now.

Special project, huh? Well that probably would be the personal studio I putting together to take portraits of the grands from time to time. I have the lights, the sheets to diffuse the lights and, of course, the camera and tripod. Mom has gathered some fabric for me to use as backdrops (just as soon as I pick it up from her house). And I still need to get some dashboard savers for directing the light. A single work light would be a good investment, I think. They are less than $10 and I already have a hook in the ceiling to hang it from (before your minds start slipping too far, it is for the Christmas tree).

I have been having fun with what I have so far and even the photographer at the newspaper was pretty impressed. Speaking of photos, I just found the dvd with the Christmas pictures my sister took. I'll have to take a look at them in a moment or two. Um, after I finish this.

(Mom, thanks for the tip. I ran this through word and there was nary a mistake in it, spelling or otherwise.)

Blog Prompt - List things

You've always wanted to do that you haven't done (yet)

And at this point, probably will never try, LOL. Skydiving would top my list of something that I wanted to do, but haven't. I got to ride on the autobahn (my sister drove) which was another thing I wanted to do. And I learned they do have speed limits. Just about anything I have always wanted to do, I have. Oh, oh, oh. I know one. I would like to go back to Rapid City, SD, one day. I was born there and would like to see it. May be go to Rome, Ireland and back to Germany. Actually those are places I would like to see, not really something to do, huh? Oh well, I am sure I could find something to do while at each place... Museums, ruins, etc.

Blog Prompt: Is writing

in your blog a form of self therapy?

In one word... No. I don't really know why I do it, other than my sister was so excited about it when she got me started. I really like doing the blog prompts as it makes me think about things I normally would not think about. And it gives me a change to post my layouts for family and friends to see that I would not be able to share otherwise (okay, I guess I could email them, but at least here they aren't forced to look upon them, LOL).

Things I would need therapy even of the self-help type, I would never share on such an open forum. And as to if I even need therapy, do you think I would tell you? :)

Blog Prompt: What is in your car trunk

or the back of your family van?

This should be easy. A towel, a beach chair and various beach related items. None of which belong to me. I went out one day and there they were. I guess I can claim them as my own since they have now been there for nearly 3 months and no one else has claimed them.

Actually I know who they belong to and if I ever get up the gumption (or just remember), I'll take them out and hide them. Bwahhh hahahahahaha.....

Another Mrs. Who Quiz

I am a
Canna

"You stand up for what you believe in, even if it gets in the way of what other people think. You are proud of yourself and your accomplishments and you enjoy letting people know that."

What Flower
Are You?

If you had to donate

one million dollars to any charity, which one would it be and why?

CAC, the Children's Advocacy Center. If we are to make improvements in society we have to start with children. And those most in need are not necessarily those across an ocean from us, but here at home. The abused and neglected children. Those with parents who do not even care enough to see the children are feed and clothed properly. Who do not show any love or concern unless it is to their advantage.

The National Children's Advocacy Center (NCAC) is a non-profit organization that provides training, prevention, intervention and treatment services to fight child abuse and neglect. (NCAC website)

How Smart is Your Right Foot?

1. Without anyone watching you (they will think you are GOOFY......) and while sitting at your desk in front of your computer, lift your right foot off the floor and make clockwise circles.

2. Now, while doing this, draw the number '6' in the air with your right hand. Your foot will change direction. I told you so!!! And there's nothing you can do about it! You and I both know how stupid it is, but before the day is done you are going to try it again, if you've not already done it.

From the Mouths

of Children. About oceans:

This is a picture of an octopus. It has eight testicles. (Kelly, age 6)

Oysters' balls are called pearls. (Jerry, age 6)

If you are surrounded by ocean you are an island. If you don't have ocean all round you, you are incontinent. (Wayne, age 7)

Sharks are ugly and mean, and have big teeth, just like Emily Richardson. She's not my friend any more. (Kylie, age 6)

A dolphin breaths through an as-hole on the top of its head. (Billy, age 8)

My uncle goes out in his boat with 2 other men and a woman and pots and comes back with crabs. (Millie, age 6)

When ships had sails, they used to use the trade winds to cross the ocean. Sometimes when the wind didn't blow the sailors would whistle to make the wind come. My brother said they would have been better off eating beans. (William, age 7)

Mermaids live in the ocean. I like mermaids. They are beautiful and I like their shiny tails, but how on earth do mermaids get pregnant? Like, really? (Helen, age 6)

I'm not going to write about the ocean. My baby brother is always crying, my Dad keeps yelling at my Mom, and my big sister has just got pregnant, so I can't think what to write. (Amy, age 6)

Some fish are dangerous. Jellyfish can sting. Electric eels can give you a shock. They have to live in caves under the sea where I think they have to plug themselves into chargers. (Christopher, age 7)

When you go swimming in the ocean, it is very cold, and it makes my willy small. (Kevin, age 6)

Divers have to be safe when they go under the water. Divers can't go down alone, so they have to go down on each other.(Becky, age 8)

On vacation my Mom went water skiing. She fell off when she was going very fast. She says she won't do it again because water fired right up her big fat as-s. (Julie, age 7)

The Ocean is made up of water and fish. Why the fish don't drown I don't know. (Bobby, age 6
)
My dad was a sailor on the ocean. He knows all about the ocean. What he doesn't know is why he quit being a sailor and married my mom. (James, age 7)

The Thinker

Odd how some things work out... I think this one has me pegged :)

Your Word is "Think"

You see life as an amazing mix of possibilities, ideas, and fascinations.

And sometimes you feel like you don't have enough time to take it all in.
You love learning. Whether you're in school or not, you're probably immersed in several subjects right now.

When you're not learning, you're busy reflecting. You think a lot about the people you know and the things you've experienced.

Are you superstitious?

Apparently not, according to the Princess who is all up in arms this morning because it's Friday the 13th and I wasn't overly concerned. But maybe I should have been. I just noticed that she left for school without her Valentine's cards which I will now have to take up to the school in a few minutes. Now is that bad luck for her or for me, since I am the one who has to make a trip to the school.

You have to bring some food

to a party. What's it going to be?

Chicken salad stuffed cherry tomatoes or celery stuffed with cream cheese. Both are pretty easy to make and look nice (especially if you do both of them on the same platter). Years ago I use to have a recipe for pickled cauliflower that was a big hit. But these days I go for easy but still homemade.

If I had 24 hours to evacuate

my home before it was to be destroyed by a hurricane, what 10 things would I grab (not including people or pets)

Guess I can tell what is on Tammy's mind, LOL. Yep, it is getting on to that time again. As for me the 10 items would be:

1. My purse
2. any medication that one of us may be on
3. cellphone
4. camera
5. as many pictures as I could fit in the truck
6. cpu & external hard drives
7. all the spare change/cash laying around
8. the televisions
9. pillows
10. my Tink blanket

I tried to put them in order as to what I would leave behind if I had (#10 being the first to be left behind, etc.) The first 4 are givens. They would go no matter what.

A new day, a new header

And the kids will be home sometime today. I would be lying if I said I didn't miss them. I did. Terribly. But it was nice to have a week to ourselves (sans the cat). To watch what we wanted to watch. To read what we wanted to read. Yep, it's been nice, but it will be nicer to have them home.

What foods do you keep out of sight?

Avocados. And not for the reason you might think. I have to hide them to keep everyone else's hands off them. Same goes for lettuce and tomatoes. Bring any of these items into the house and they are usually gone within 15 minutes. Celery, oranges, bananas also top the list of items that don't last long. Yet we have boxes of single portion crackers and cookies that have been in the cabinet for nearly a month. There is a cauldron still have full of sealed candy from Halloween but when anyone gets hungry for an after school or work snack, it's to the refrigerator for a sandwich or fruit.
