Spider, spider on the wall

I have mentioned that my children are talented haven't I? If not, just take a look at the spider that Nuke made for me out of chain maille. Out of this world gorgeous. Now I wonder what I can pester him to make for me next.

A look back at 1936

Left: Henry holding Gypsy. Right: Golda holding Gypsy
My mom had two baby albums full of pictures. My boss said I should keep the pictures in the albums for context. Unfortunately the pages were disintegrating so I purchased some archival sleeves and archival boxes to store them in. Fortunately the pictures did not seem to be put in with much rhyme or reason, so I don't feel to badly about taking them out. Now maybe they will last out another generation or two. And I am getting them scanned in so they will be available digitally and some will show up here from time to time as well.

A spread of 21 years

Left: Me. Right: Nuke
The things you find. While going through the pictures mom had stored away, I came across these two, side by side, in a small frame. Nuke appears to be just a tad chubbier, but not much. And while you can't tell from the black and white photo, my hair was the same color as his.

The procession....starts

The wedding procession starts. Since I was sitting to MiLady's back I wasn't able to get much from her side of the procession, but at least I got something. It was so grand to see everyone all dressed up in their garb to celebrate the day.

A Viking family affair

The whole family gets together for a group photo with the groom. Am so glad my sister, her husband and mom got to make it. I know it made it special for Nuke to have family surrounding him on his and MiLady's day.

Ringing in the Wedding

Back to the graphic novel for a while. This time with a picture of their wedding rings. Nuke's is titanium and wood, while MiLady's has moons and rabbits running around it. Beautiful set.

If he wasn't 6 foot tall

He would have made a good dwarf in one of the LOTR movies don't you think? Oh, wait, I think all the guys were nearly that tall or taller anyway. Maybe I should make him one in the graphic novel. That would be novel indeed. He can be Nukiel Vikingson. Unless you can come up with something better.

Royal visitor

I am having so much fun doing these and can't wait to get them finished. Getting them finished will just be the beginning as I need to get dialogue and captions for the graphic novel. If the kids don't write them for me, guess I will just have to make them up. Not sure they would really appreciate that, but they have a choice.
When they were preparing for this ceremony, they knew what to expect since they do a lot with the re-enactment groups. Me, not so much. I did a lot of reading on what the Viking women would wear since my son was wearing Viking clothing. MiLady though went forward in time a little. Still we had a great time. Including Pan who had to walk around in the chain mail for a couple of hours.

Such a cute couple

MiLady and Nuke
They make such a cute couple especially in the full renaissance regalia. We had such a good time.

What expressions

Nuke & MiLady
I have been having a delightful time altering the photos to look like comic characters, but trying to figure out what to have them say is making me want to pull my hair out. That is unless, Nuke and MiLady want to tell me what was being said (or what they want everyone to be saying).

On a roll

MiLady, Nuke, Brindel, Timon
Instead of cartoonizing (is that a real word, I wonder?) the background, I applied was is called a milkglass technique. Sent the Bug a link to the tutorial and she went milkglass crazy, LOL. I think it works well with the cartoon characters and doesn't overpower them. Makes them shine.....

Back to the drawing board

Pan, Nuke, Bear
Aren't they just the cutest? Pan had been standing in the shadow and I didn't get a really good skin color for him. So I will redo him later. But for now, I just love how it turned out. And when I sent it to ddpuppies, she sent me some wonderful pictures she had taken at the ceremony. Can't wait to get started on them. Now if I can just get some from Nuke and MiLady....hint, hint

Muskrat Love

MiLady and Nuke
I may have actually posted this one before. Soon after Nuke and MiLady had their Viking wedding ceremony, I got this "brilliant" idea to make a different kind of wedding album. But this was the only picture I had gotten done, before other things took over my time. Well, I have been re-energized by taking classes from Cassel at the Scrapbook Campus. I have started again. My newer ones are more comic book like than this one, but I don't think I will change it. I'll be posting them as I get them done, but they won't be in any special order until I get ready to make the book.

Happy Birthday Nuke

Then (1977)
Now (2011)
It's hard to believe my "baby" is now 36 years old. But he has grown into a fine, responsible man and I couldn't be any prouder than to say he's mine. I am so lucky that I got to help mold him into the man he is, but then I had some fine "clay" to work with.

So honey, here is hoping that you have a very special day with your family and friends.

March 1, 1977 is the 60th day of the year 1977 in the Gregorian calendar.
If you are trying to learn French then this day of the week in French is mardi.
Pisces is the zodiac sign of a person born on this day. Aquamarine is the modern birthstone for this month. Jade is the mystical birthstone from Tibetan origin that dates back over a thousand years.

Snake is the mythical animal and Fire is the element for a person born on this day if we consider the very old art of Chinese astrology (or Chinese zodiac).

A message from MiLady

Received this Wednesday night:

Hi Mom,

One last night then we leave for MUSC. They want me there at 5:30am! So I told Nuke that we have go drive down the day before (3 hour drive one way) because I wanted a good night's sleep before surgery, and being woken up 2-3 times a night while they check my vital signs. Of course, if I'm lucky, they'll give me some good drugs and I won't even care or remember. :-)  I should be packing, but I really don't feel like doing it. I wish I knew how long I am going to be there. Since it's such a long drive, I probably won't see Nuke again until they release me (of course he's staying for a while after I come out of surgery, but then he'll go home). I hate that it's so far from family and friends.

I'd be so much more comfortable here at the hospital I used to work at because I know most everyone there. I'll be truly alone at MUSC once Nuke leaves. OMG, I sound like a drama queen, but it's really how I feel. I've not been away from Nuke for more than a day since we got married. I really will hate being away from him, family and friends, and my fur babies. It feels like time is dragging, yet speeding up at the same time. I mean, time is dragging because I'm ready to have this over with, but all too soon Friday will be here and I'm not ready to be so isolated. I don't even know if I'll be able to talk after they're done. I lost my voice for a few days after the first surgery. Nuke thought it was funny, and installed a "Stephen Hawking"-like program into my laptop.....it was too funny! I swear, you and Pan have warped his sense of humor...it's so great! One of my sisters told me I found the perfect man for me, and she is right. You've raised a wonderful son, and I want to thank you and Pan for that.

Well, I need to pack, and then try to sleep some so I can drive. Nuke's still on night shift, so he can sleep while I drive. Nuke will call you after I'm out of surgery to let you know how it went.

Much love to you and Pan!
Hope to hear from them soon.

UPDATE 7:05 a.m. CST: MiLady is now in surgery. Please keep her in your thoughts and prayers.

UPDATE #2 9:09 a.m CST from Nuke:
She's out and in recovery. Dr.  said everything went well! I should be able to see her within the hour.

Restaurants, Balconies & Marines

Have preteen/teen kids? Don’t take them to a restaurant with a balcony that overlooks the bar and a stage. Especially if the bar is full of Marines.

Pan and I took our kids to a local restaurant, which is always fun to go to. There was a wait so we went up to the balcony to watch the band play. This band had already dubbed the Bomb “spoiled,” and that is what they called her each time we came in. (Does that tell you how much we frequented this particular restaurant?)

But back to the balcony, we are standing there waiting for our table. Pan and I have a beer and the kids have Sprite. As I am looking over the crowd below us, I notice these Marines kept looking up to where we are standing.

Then I caught him, NavyNuke was spitting on them and hiding just before they would look up. Fortunately we got called to our table before they figured out who it was. Needless to say Nuke got a good chewing out over that one. And who knew that one day he would end up in the Navy and his brother in the Marine Corps.

Happy Birthday NUKE

Thirty-two years ago you graced me with your presence. And I have not regretted a moment of the time. You are a wonderful son and friend. May your day be filled with fun and pleasant memories.

A Freezer's Tribulations

Thurs 8/30 Blog Prompt: Just call me nosy Rosy (or Loony)! I had to defrost my freezer this month in hopes of repairing it, which we did. It amazed me to find stuff in there that I had forgotten about! Name 5 things in your freezer right now.

An easy one today, huh? I don't even need to get up and go look.

1. Several boxes of mini-pizzas
2. 1 1/2 bags Tyson Hot Wings
3. Several loaves of garlic bread
4. 1/2 gallon vanilla ice cream
5. A block of parmesan cheese

Do who's up for dinner? LOL

KFKAP is trying to help me type so if there are any errors we can blame it on him, ROFL.
